Turkey is hosting five million refugees

Turkey is hosting five million refugees, including 3.5 million Syrians, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said yesterday.

Speaking at the 17th General Assembly of the International Foundation for Sustainable Peace and Development in Istanbul, Kalin stressed on the importance of resolving the international refugee crisis.

He added that there are 70 million refugees across the world who come from Syria, North Africa, Central Asia, South Asia and other parts of the world.

“Turkey is currently hosting five million refugees, including 3.5 million Syrians. It is also hosting refugees from Iraq and other countries.”

Kalin noted that the refugee crisis constitutes a test to countries and to the international system. Many countries have failed the test, he said.
